Uploads & Files

Failed uploads, missing files, and preview errors.

My file won't upload

Walk through these checks:

  1. Is the file type supported? See Vault → Uploading Files for the full list. Executables and scripts are blocked.
  2. Is the file too large? Limits are 512 MB for general files, 200 MB for Office documents, 2 GB for video. Chat attachments have lower limits.
  3. Is your network stable? Large uploads can fail on flaky connections. Try a wired connection or a different network.
  4. Browser extensions interfering? Try an incognito window to rule that out.

If the upload reaches 100% but the file doesn't appear, give it a moment — indexing can take a few seconds. If it doesn't appear after a minute, retry the upload.

Search indexing takes a moment for new uploads. Larger files (especially PDFs) can take a few minutes. Wait and try again.

If a file's status shows processing in the Vault, it isn't searchable yet.

I can't preview a file

  • Files that take more than 3 minutes to load show a timeout with a retry option.
  • Some Office formats need a sidecar conversion that occasionally fails. Try Open in new tab to download and view locally instead.
  • Very large files may not preview at all — download to view.

I deleted a file by accident

Deleted files go to Trash, not permanently gone. Open the Trash tab in the Vault and select Restore. Files in Trash are auto-purged after the workspace's retention window — usually 30 days.

A folder is missing

  • Check Trash. Deleting a folder moves it (and its files) there.
  • If you can't see a folder you used to be able to see, check whether it's owned by someone else — only the owner sees their own folder structure. If the file was shared with you individually, it appears in your view but the folder hierarchy isn't replicated.

Chat won't accept my file

  • Check the expiration. If the link has a date set on it, that date may have passed.
  • Confirm the file is still set to Public link (not switched back to Restricted).
  • Public links break if the file is deleted, even from Trash.
