Search

Find files, chats, and meetings across MainBranch.

Search is the fastest way to find anything in MainBranch. There are two surfaces — a quick palette and a dedicated search page.

The search palette

Press Cmd/Ctrl + K (or click Search in the sidebar) to open the palette. It shows:

  • Your recent chats, ordered by activity.
  • Quick links to Vault, Meetings, and Tools.
  • Live search results as you type.

Results are grouped:

  • Chats — Conversations whose title or messages match.
  • Files — Vault files whose name or content matches.
  • Web suggestions — Trending or AI-generated topics related to your query (when web search is enabled).

Up to 8 of your most recent searches appear in the dropdown when the search input is empty. Click any to re-run it, or click Clear to wipe them.

The full search page

Click See all results in the palette, or go to Search from the sidebar, for the full experience with filters and pagination.

What gets searched

  • Vault files — All your documents, images, audio, video, spreadsheets, etc. Includes full-text search inside PDFs and Office documents.
  • Chats — Titles and message contents.
  • Meetings — Meeting titles, transcripts, and summaries.

Filters

  • Formats — Limit by file type: PDF, Word, Google Docs, spreadsheets, Google Sheets, presentations, Google Slides, images, audio, video.
  • Date range — A start and end date to narrow results.
  • Sort by — Relevance (default) or recently updated.

Result cards

Each result shows the type, title (with matched terms highlighted), a relevant snippet, and the date it was last updated.

Use the pagination controls at the bottom of the list to move between pages.

Search vs. chat

Use search when you know what you're looking for and want to open it directly. Use chat when you want the assistant to answer a question using what it finds.
