Configuring Chat
Model picker, data source toggles, and how workspace settings shape your chat.
The chat input has a small row of controls just under it. This page explains each one.
Model picker
The assistant supports multiple AI models. Your workspace admin enables which ones are available and sets a default. To override the default for a specific chat, open the model picker next to the send button and pick another model.
Different models have different strengths — some are faster, some are better at deep reasoning, some have larger context windows. Hover any model for a short description.
For some reasoning models, your admin can also set a default thinking effort (low, medium, high, extra-high, max). Higher effort means the model thinks longer before answering, which improves quality on complex tasks at the cost of time.
Data source toggles
The assistant searches across multiple sources by default. You can opt out for a specific chat by clicking the toggles below the input:
- Calendar — Include or exclude your connected calendar.
- Meetings — Include or exclude your meeting transcripts and summaries.
- Integrations — Include or exclude Google Drive, OneDrive, Gmail, Outlook, etc.
- Vault — Include or exclude files you've uploaded to the Vault.
You can also mention sources inline with @vault, @meetings, or @forms and the assistant will focus on just those.
Web search toggle
If your admin has enabled web search, you'll see a globe icon. Click it to allow the assistant to pull from the live web for the current chat. Press Cmd/Ctrl + S to toggle it quickly.
If you don't see the globe icon, web search is disabled for your workspace.
File uploads
The paperclip icon is the file uploader. If your admin has disabled file uploads in chat, the paperclip won't appear. See Workspace → Assistant configuration.
Custom instructions from your admin
Your workspace admin can set custom instructions that apply to every conversation in your workspace — things like a preferred tone, response length, or domain context. These are invisible in the conversation but shape how the assistant responds. Ask your admin if you want to know what's set.
Personal preferences
Most user-level chat preferences are controlled directly in the chat (model, data sources, web search). Settings that persist across chats (like archived chats and notification preferences) live in Profile settings.
