Chat History
Pin, archive, rename, branch, export, and delete your conversations.
Every conversation is saved automatically and synced across devices. This page covers the operations available on the chat history in the sidebar.
Browsing your chats
Chats are listed in the left sidebar:
- Pinned chats at the top.
- Recent chats below, ordered by most recent activity.
- Scroll to load older conversations.
Each row shows the chat's title and how long ago it was last active (e.g. 2h, 3d). Click any row to open the chat.
Searching your chats
Press Cmd/Ctrl + K to open the chat history search. It searches across titles and message contents and shows results live as you type. Click any result to jump in.
Pinning a chat
Hover the chat in the sidebar and open its ⋯ menu. Choose Pin. Pinned chats stay at the top of the list regardless of activity. Pick Unpin in the same menu to remove the pin.
Renaming a chat
Open the chat's ⋯ menu and choose Rename. Enter a new title and save. The assistant auto-titles chats based on what you discussed, but renaming makes it easier to come back to important threads later.
Branching a chat
On any assistant reply, click Branch. MainBranch creates a new chat that contains every message up to and including that point. The new chat appears in the sidebar titled Branch: [Original Title].
This is useful when you want to explore an alternative direction without losing the work you've already done. Common patterns:
- "Try this with a different tone" — branch, retry, compare.
- "What if we used a different framework?" — branch, explore, come back.
Archiving a chat
Open the chat's ⋯ menu and choose Archive. The chat is hidden from your main list but not deleted. To see archived chats, go to Profile settings → Data controls. From there you can restore individual chats or all of them.
You can also archive all chats at once from the data controls page.
Exporting a chat
From the chat's ⋯ menu you can:
- Export as PDF — A formatted PDF including titles, timestamps, and your full conversation.
- Export as Markdown — Plain Markdown file. Useful for importing into notes apps.
- Copy all — Copies the entire conversation in Markdown format to your clipboard.
Deleting a chat
Open the chat's ⋯ menu and choose Delete. Deleted chats are gone permanently — they don't go to archive. You'll be asked to confirm.
How long history is kept
Chat history is retained as long as your account is active. Your workspace admin may have additional retention policies — check with them for specifics.
