Document Chat

Document Chat allows you to upload documents and have AI-powered conversations about their content, making it easy to analyze, understand, and extract information from files.

Document Chat provides:

  • Upload and analyze any supported document
  • Ask questions about document content
  • Get AI-generated summaries and insights
  • Extract specific information
  • Suggested questions to explore

Click Document Chat (Docu-Chat) in the App Drawer section of the sidebar.

  1. Open Document Chat

    Navigate to Document Chat from the App Drawer.

  2. Upload a Document

    Click the upload area or drag and drop your document. Supported formats include:

    • PDF documents
    • Word documents (.doc, .docx)
    • Text files
    • Spreadsheets (.xlsx, .csv)
  3. Wait for Processing

    The document is uploaded and analyzed. Processing time depends on document size.

  4. Start Chatting

    Once processed, you can begin asking questions about the document.

You can ask various types of questions about your uploaded documents:

"Summarize this document"
"What are the main points?"
"Give me an overview in 3 sentences"
"What date is mentioned in section 3?"
"Who are the stakeholders listed?"
"What is the budget amount?"
"What are the pros and cons discussed?"
"Are there any risks mentioned?"
"What recommendations are made?"
"How does this compare to the previous version?"
"What changed from the original proposal?"

After uploading a document, Document Chat suggests relevant questions based on the content. Click any suggestion to ask that question.

Responses include references to specific parts of the document. You can:

  • See which sections informed the answer
  • Click references to view the relevant text
  • Verify accuracy against the source

Continue the conversation with follow-up questions:

Initial: "What are the budget items?"
Follow-up: "Which item has the highest cost?"
Follow-up: "Are there any items marked as optional?"

Ask for information in specific formats:

"List the action items as bullet points"
"Create a table of the costs mentioned"
"Summarize each section separately"

  • Documents are processed up to the configured size limit
  • Very large documents may take longer to process
  • Complex formatting may affect processing

Use Document Chat when:

  • You have a specific document to analyze
  • The document is not in your connected sources
  • You want focused analysis without other sources
  • You need deep analysis of a single file

Use AI Assistant when:

  • You want to search across all sources
  • The document is already in The Vault or connected sources
  • You want to combine information from multiple documents
  • You have a general question
  • Use clear, specific questions
  • Reference specific sections when you know them
  • Start with general questions, then drill down
  • Verify important information against the source
  • Start with a summary to understand the structure
  • Ask about specific sections rather than the whole document
  • Use suggested questions to explore systematically
  • Take notes on important findings
  • Break down complex questions into simpler parts
  • Ask one thing at a time
  • Request clarification if responses are unclear
  • Check the file format is supported
  • Verify the file is not corrupted
  • Try converting to a different format (PDF often works well)
  • Check file size limits
  • The document may be image-based (scanned) rather than text
  • Complex formatting may affect text extraction
  • Try asking more specific questions
  • Rephrase your question differently
  • The information may not be in the document
  • Try different phrasings
  • Check if the relevant section was processed
  • Verify the text is selectable in the original document
